Riding from Bergamo to Clusone: an absolute must-do activity
If you love two-wheeled adventures and wish to explore breathtaking landscapes in the tranquility of nature, the bikelane connecting Bergamo to Clusone is just what you need.
In this article, I’ll give you five compelling reasons to embark on this beautiful cycling route through the marvelous Val Seriana.
Let’s get started!
1. Bergamo-Clusone bikelane: the track accessible to ALL
A pleasant and well-maintained cycle path, perfect for family outings
The Bergamo-Clusone cycle path strikes the perfect balance between adventure and accessibility. Stretching for about 31 kilometers, it offers a predominantly flat route suitable for both experienced cyclists and those looking to enjoy a pleasant family ride. The path alternates between asphalt and gravel, providing a diverse riding experience.

2. Immerse yourself in Val Seriana’s nature
Breathtaking landscapes and unexpected encouters
As you ride along the route, you’ll find yourself immersed in the beauty of nature. The cycle path follows the Serio River and crosses modern steel and wooden bridges as well as ancient medieval stone bridges, which were abandoned to cars but are perfect for bikes.
Signposts, kilometer markers, and informational panels about the flora and fauna will accompany you along the way, allowing you to spot local wildlife, including wild rabbits, horses, cows, and ibises.

3. Have a break at Serio Park
Take a break in the shade of maple trees or at one of the little kiosks
During your journey along the bikelane, you’ll pass through the splendid Serio Park, a green oasis between the cities of Alzano Lombardo and Villa di Serio.
This park is ideal for a brief stop with the family, it offers looped paths perfect for a leisurely ride. Along the route, you’ll also find numerous kiosks where you can refresh and relax before continuing your journey.

4. Take a Dip into the waters of Serio RiverSerio
Refresh yourself into the waters of Serio River and relax on its beaches
As if the cycling adventure and natural beauty weren’t enough, the Bergamo-Clusone cycle path has another delightful surprise for you. Along the route, you’ll have the chance to dip into the refreshing waters of the Serio River and unwind on its inviting beaches.
The Serio River, with its crystal-clear waters, offers a perfect opportunity to cool off during your cycling journey. Whether you’re looking to take a quick dip, sunbathe on the riverbanks, or simply dip your toes in, the river provides a serene oasis to escape the summer heat. Of all beaches along the way, I recommend you try the one called Coston Beach (you can find it on google maps). This beach is characterized by large white boulders, including a couple painted like cute beached duck.
So, on summer time, bring along your swimsuit and a beach towel, and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to combine your cycling adventure with some well-deserved relaxation along the river.

5. TEB tram: a convenient alternative
Is the route too long for you? Here a shortcut for you
If you’re concerned about covering the entire 31 kilometers by bike, don’t worry!
The TEB tram of Valle Seriana runs almost parallel to the cycle path, get on it in Bergamo and get off in Albino. This is an excellent option to shorten your ride (of about 10km) or reach Ranica from Bergamo station while avoiding the urban cycling segment. Remember that tram allows allows to carry a maximum of four bicycles.
6. Discover the “Painted town”: Clusone
Explore Clusone, its frescoed palaces, the basilica and its local delicacies
Last stage, but not the least, of this bike journey is the town of Clusone: named one of the most beautiful town in Italy.
Departing in the morning, you should get to Clusone around midday, the perfect time to explore this beautiful town and enjoy a lunch based on local products. Clusone offers many attractions, including:
- the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, overlooking a breathtaking view of the valley;
- the Oratorio dei Disciplini with its fresco dating back to 1484-1485 and having as its theme: death. It is a very suggestive fresco divided into three registers: at the top appears The Triumph of Death, in the middle one the Macabre Dance and on the lower one the Last Judgment (unfortunately very damaged).
Curiosità: la Danza Macabra è finita anche in un noto videogioco, precisamente nel terzo capitolo della saga RPG dark fantasy di The Witcher. - other ancient frescoes decorate the streets of the city center and have earned Clusone the title of “painted city”;
- last but not least, the Planetary Clock, a true masterpiece of watchmaking engineering. You’ll notice that the outer circle is divided into 24 hours instead of 12 and that the hands turn counterclockwise. This complex watch also indicates zodiac signs, day, month, moon and sun phases and the hours of light and dark.
In short, not to be missed!
